New 'water trigger' laws for CSG out for public comment
THE coal seam gas industry and green groups have three weeks to have their say on the new "water trigger" laws in the Commonwealth environmental assessment process.
After gaining royal assent in late June, the new water resources criteria for CSG and large coal mines is now out for public comment.
The Federal Environment Department has put out draft guidelines on how the laws would be put into practice, as part of the wider environmental assessments for such projects.
It includes a draft set of "significant impact guidelines" in an effort to quantify which projects could have impacts on ground and surface water flows, as well as the quality of underground water.
The public comment period for the new laws closes on Thursday, July 25.
