No decision made on Wondai Pool's future: Mayor explains
NO DECISION has been made on the future of the Wondai Memorial Swimming Pool, South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell has reiterated.
With the council's public swimming pools in Kingaroy, Nanango, Murgon and Wondai reaching the end of their useful asset lives in the next 10 years, Cr Campbell explained that in the next three-to-five years the council would need to investigate the feasibility of replacing them.
"There has been a lot of misinformation out in the community about the draft Sport and Recreation Plan, where it has been misread that council will be closing the Wondai swimming pool,” Cr Campbell said.
"Council will investigate each pool structure above and below ground to gain an understanding of the costs to repair or replace the pools.
"Once we have this information we will conduct further community consultation to gain an acute understanding of what the community is prepared to pay to retain these facilities.”
The Draft South Burnett Sport and Recreation Infrastructure and Strategic Plan is currently out for community consultation and can be viewed at local libraries or downloaded from the council's website, southburnett.qld.gov.au.
Have your say on the draft plan by May 25, by filling out a feedback form available from Council Customer Service Centres and Libraries, or submitting feedback online.
One-to-one meeting opportunities to discuss the plan will be held across the region from May 20-22, with the details on the council's website.
