Campbell and Bandits riding high in Australian Baseball League

ANDREW Campbell is in career best form as the Brisbane Bandits ride high in the Australian Baseball League.

The Bandits had split the first two games of their current series in Sydney when Campbell spoke to the QT yesterday.

He was preparing for game three against the Blue Sox last night, having hit for three runs in game one on Friday.

Campbell's influence in the side has increased steadily in the five seasons he's been involved with the Bandits.

This season he started as designated hitter, with his left arm swing seen as a handy point of difference, rather than a crucial ingredient.

But his form has been such that he's made himself an indispensable member of the side.

"I was hitting well and not doing much wrong," the Yamanto product said.

"It's probably the best I've ever hit.

"I've been pretty consistent."

Combined with his lightning fast coverage in the field Campbell couldn't ask for much more.

He puts his current form down to a change in attitude, trying to "keep that level" emotionally, rather than getting too up when things are going well or too down when they're not.

"I've just told myself not to worry," he said.

"It's the old cliché, to just have fun and not worry as much.

"Because I didn't start in the team I decided to just be myself and see where that takes me."

If there is one down side to his current form and the team's success it is that he can't enjoy it alongside good friend and Ipswich teammate Josh Roberts beside him.

Roberts, who captained the team last summer, was dropped from the side earlier this month.
