This is what utter despair looks like.

NZ front page gives painfully perfect reaction

The front page of the NZ Herald was as black as the mood engulfing New Zealand.

The Kiwis are in mourning after the All Blacks were knocked out of the Rugby World Cup, going down 19-7 to England in Saturday night's semi-final to crush the team's bid of winning the Webb Ellis trophy for a third consecutive time.

It was a dark day for the proud rugby nation in more ways than one.

The NZ Herald's front page was blacked out save for a small excerpt of text that read: "The All Blacks are out of the World Cup. if you want to read more, go to the sports section."

Just months after the New Zealand cricket team was cruelly denied a maiden World Cup triumph, also at the hands of the Poms, 2019 has officially become a year to forget for the Kiwis against England at major sporting tournaments.

So you can forgive those from the Shaky Isles for not being too keen to splash news of this latest disappointment on newspapers across the land.

The NZ Herald's decision brought back memories of New Orleans' salty response to its NFL franchise, the Saints, being robbed of a Super Bowl berth this year because of a contentious refereeing blunder.

The mood of New Orleans back in February was summed up by local newspaper The Times-Picayune, which used its front page the morning after the New England Patriots' Super Bowl triumph to deliver a deliciously salty jab at the NFL and the officials responsible for their playoffs elimination.
