Out, out black spot: Boondooma gets mobile coverage

THE Boondooma area will have mobile coverage for the first time once a new base station is built in the area.

Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd made the announcement.

"The new base station at Boondooma will give the area mobile coverage for the very first time, which is great news for local residents and visitors to the area,” Mr O'Dowd said.

The base station will be delivered as part of round three of the Mobile Black Spot program that has led to the establishment of more than 696 active mobile stations across Australia.

Mr O'Dowd said he understood reliable and effective mobile communications helped drive the contribution rural areas made to Australia's economy.

"Greater access to mobile services in regional areas not only makes it easier to stay in touch with family and friends, it also means better access to online services and helps local businesses grow,” he said.

A new Telstra 4G small cell will be located in Bajool to improve coverage and capacity in the area - one of 29 new small cells and base stations throughout the Flynn electorate.

"All three major phone carriers have existing coverage in the Bajool area, but the new small cell is going to boost the signal strength of 4G services, which is great news for residents and people driving the Bruce Highway,” Mr O'Dowd said.
