POLICE have released footage of the moment they busted five youths at a Maroochydore apartment last night ignoring coronavirus health advice and having a "noisy party".

Sunshine Coast Acting Superintendent Jason Overland said each person was given a $1334.50 fine for breaching the Chief Health Officer's directives.

Officers can be heard telling the group gatherings like theirs were "not permitted at all".

"Life has changed a little bit for everybody," the police officer says.

"It's the same for us, when we finish our shifts we go home. We're not allowed to leave our homes except for essential purposes either."

The group claimed to have had no knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic or social distancing directions.

"I find that hard to believe but I understand that's something they can probably raise with the magistrate if they wish to," Act Supt Overland said.

"It is disappointing to see the degree of planning that has gone into this. Maybe the message isn't getting through but I'm sure that $6500 worth of fines will help get that through.

"... It is irresponsible and reckless."

Police officers can take action against anyone who is failing to comply with public health directions set out by the CHO.
