Parkhurst man charged over alleged assault and car chase


11.00am: A Parkhurst man, 41, has been charged in relation to the alleged incident.

He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on two counts of failing to stop a motor vehicle, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count of obstructing police.


2.20pm: POLICE are currently talking with a man wanted in relation to an assault in Parkhurst and for leading a high speed chase through north Rockhampton this afternoon.

2.05pm: A MAN wanted in relation to an assault in Parkhurst this afternoon is currently leading police on a drive north of Rockhampton.

Police were pursuing the vehicle near the Etna Creek area.

Reports indicate he is now travelling back towards Rockhampton, but not driving dangerously.

2pm: THE man has turned around again and is heading north along the Bruce Highway.

Reports indicate the car was stationary a few hundred metres short of the Etna Creek Rd turn off when a police car went to approach and it has sped off.

1.55pm: POLICE pursuing a man wanted in relation to an assault in Parkhurst have been told to abandon a pursuit as the vehicle was going in excess of 150km/hr.

It is believed police were originally called to an assault of a woman in Parkhurst just after 1.30pm.

Reports indicate the woman was found inside the residence and the alleged offender was seen headed towards The Caves.

About 1.46pm, a police patrol came across the vehicle the man was travelling in along Yaamba Rd near Etna Creek Rd intersection as it did a uturn to head towards back to Rockhampton.

Reports indicate he drove at the police vehicle about this time.

It is believed the police vehicle pursued the man, with speeds reaching over 150km in light traffic.

However, reports indicate the officers were told to stop pursuing the vehicle within minutes of the chase beginning.
