Register for Relay for Life
IT'S never too early to register for the South Burnett Relay For Life.
South Burnett Relay For Life chairwoman Rowena Dionysius said there were already five teams registered in the South Burnett for this year's relay.
"The South Burnett has already raised $646,” she said.
Mrs Dionysius encouraged South Burnett residents to get started now.
"The key is to start early. Register early and start fundraising early. Then it's much more realistic for teams to try and raise the $2000. Not that they have to raise that much to participate; but, that's generally the goal,” she said.
"The aim is to try and raise $200 per person. I know that sounds like a lot but really you only need $20 from 10 people. Which is much more achievable if you start fundraising as soon as possible.
"If there's anyone out there who is interested but doesn't have a team please contact me and I'm sure we can work something out.”
If teams register before July 19 the registration fee is only $20 per adult.
"I'd recommend about 10 to 15 people per team. Ten is probably ideal,” Mrs Dionysius said.
All funds raised go towards Queenslanders affected by cancer through The Cancer Council.
The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13, at the Kingaroy Showgrounds.
Relay For Life involves teams keeping a baton moving in a relay overnight.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan has also encouraged South Burnett locals to start thinking about teaming up with their friends, family or colleagues and to then register as soon as possible.
"Organised by passionate, local volunteers, each Relay event is an experience that will stay with you forever,” Ms McMillan said.
"Teams take part in inspirational ceremonies, fundraising activities and team challenges, supporting each other and sharing stories of hope.”
Ms McMillan said all the money raised through last year's South Burnett Relay For Life made a lasting difference to locals affected by cancer.
"Around 2040 people are diagnosed with cancer each year in South West Queensland and Relay For Life enables us to reach out and support those people,” Ms McMillan said.
"Every step taken, and every dollar raised at Relay funds our work, and in turn, provides vital support and care for all Queenslanders every minute, every hour, every day.
"So, get your friends, family or colleagues together, register a team and start fundraising.”
