REVEALED: Mackay’s Best GP has been named
HUMILITY, good listening skills and a personal approach are just some of the qualities that make for a great GP.
And according to our readers, the following two GPs possess these in spades.
Dr Ashley Nattrass, of Caneland Medical, and Dr Luke Notley, of Paul Hopkins Medical Clinic, both tied in most votes received to be named Mackay's Best GP.
Dr Nattrass was nominated by Doug Petersen and several others for his ability to take "a positive course of action in a personable way".
Dr Notley was nominated by Julie Wirz and several others for going "above and beyond" and being a "truly holistic medical officer".
Dr Nattrass received his primary degree in South Africa, where he went on to work in a poor, underprivileged community.
He then moved to London and completed his specialist degree.
In search of a great lifestyle and climate, Dr Nattrass and his wife moved to Mackay 11 years ago and haven't looked back.
He said he was "humbled and blown away" in taking out the joint title of Mackay's Best GP.
"I think it's a wonderful accolade, but it needs to be said, I'm just a cog in a wheel - I think the award should be directed at the whole team here at Caneland Medical," Dr Nattrass said.
"One of the strengths we have at Caneland Medical is we try to listen to our patients a lot."
Dr Notley also said his win was a team effort, with several GPs from Paul Hopkins Medical Clinic also nominated for the award.
"I'm honoured, a lot of the GPs who were nominated I really admire. Nicole Higgins (from Health on Central) was one of my first teachers when I became a GP," he said.
"The team here at Paul Hopkins - each and every one of them, from the doctors to the nurses and the receptionists, are focused on great health outcomes and that makes the patients feel looked after."
Dr Notley has been a GP for 14 years, spending the past 13 years of his career at Paul Hopkins Medical Clinic.
Dr Nicole Higgins, of Health on Central, and Dr Stephen Lambert, of South Side Medical, placed third and fourth respectively.
