Skating skills aside, police ready to roll

SENIOR Sergeant Jason Newton is not as confident on the wheels of his rollerblades as he is behind the wheel of his police car.

But the Nanango policeman will be donning the brightly coloured skates tonight for the Blue Light Family Skating Night.

Sgt Newton said he was hoping his skills would improve by the end of the evening.

"(Before Blue Light) the last time I skated I was probably 10 or 11," Sgt Newton said.

"Last time I bumped into a few things including some children who were far more skilled on their skates than me."

The night skates off at 6pm and runs until 8pm at the Nanango Skating Rink at George St, Nanango.

Tickets are $5 for each skater, but parents who only want to watch on can do so for free.

But Sgt Newton wants parents to know they can skate along with their children on the night.

"All members of the family are welcome, young and old," he said.
