South Burnett's charity under the stars

MULANAH Gardens is hosting a 'Dinner Under the Stars' event tonight, November 9, with all auction proceeds to go to the Farmers Drought Appeal.

Owner Rhonda Kath admits it wasn't always planned as a charity event, but after seeing so many affected by the extreme weather conditions, she thought it was the perfect way to help out.

"We've had a drought, and then we've had a really bad storm, so I thought if I approached businesses in town, maybe we could make it an auction and raise some money," she said.

Tickets were sold at $80 and $10 dollars from each ticket was donated to the appeal.

"I sold the whole lot in under three weeks. If this goes really well, I want to do it again next year and have it become an annual event," Mrs Kath said.

Not only will they be helping a good cause, visitors will also have high class food and entertainment.

"Rotary have come on board and they're doing the bar. Fitzy is doing the band, and we got catering to do a really swanky camp oven, with a three-course meal.

"There's going to be smoked salmon and prosciutto for the entree, and in the mains there's going to be a stuffed turkey, pork and beef with a couple of veggie dishes too. For dessert, there's going to be pavlova, cheesecakes and lots of other really yummy stuff," Mrs Kath said.

For the auction, attendees are encouraged to bring some extra change.

"When it comes to the auction, it's going to be a night to do your Christmas shopping. There's everything there from men, to women, to families," she said.

"All the funds are going to Graham House, who will then distribute it accordingly. They're a great organisation, because they're helping me keep the money in the affected region."

Mrs Kath has set the perfect scene for the evening, too.

"It's all outside, and there is no electricity or lights on at all. It's all candle lit and it's going to be a wonderfully elegant event."
