WHILE the state parliament knocked back the dairy industry's calls for official government logo to identify Queensland milk, it gave farmers a $960,000 consolation prize.

This money will be used to develop marking material to that identifies and promotes Queensland milk sourced at a sustainable price.

Agriculture Minister Bill Byrne said the marketing strategies would help consumers make better-informed decisions when they buy milk.

"While the Queensland Government is not in a position to set fair milk prices, it is important for consumers to understand where their money is going and how it will support local dairy farmers," Mr Byrne said.

"The funding will assist the Queensland dairy industry to develop its own Fair Milk Logo' scheme."

"This initiative will assist Queensland's dairy farmers to promote their milk and give them a fair go," Mr Tessmann said.

"It is a timely intervention that will help consumers make an informed choice and that has to be a positive thing."
