State of Origin:4 million on the edge of their lounge chairs

A RECORD four million viewers switched on their tubes to watch last night's State of Origin to watch the Blues break their eight year winning drought.

The figures make it the highest rating television show of 2014 and the highest rating Origin Game in history.

The tense game peaked at 2.990 million viewers and was the number one program along the East Coast, in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

In the Regional markets, Game Two averaged 1.494 million viewers, peaking at over 1.762 million.

In Sydney, an average of 1.2 million viewers watched the game on Channel Nine, with a peak of 1.305 million. 

In Brisbane, an average audience of 862,000 watched the game, with a peak of 922,000. 

In Melbourne, an average audience of 420,000 for Total People, with a peak of 480,000. 

The offical State of Origin website along with the app has had 3.4 million page views and logged over 2.2 million video streams of the multi-camera angle replays since launch.

In social media The Tweet of Origin captured nearly 50k Tweets with NSW winning with more than double QLD's total -  33,733 to 15,231.
