Storm makes most of good fortune with win over Dragons

THE Dragons' hoodoo in Melbourne extended to 13 losses on Sunday, but they can take heart despite the 30-10 loss at AAMI Park.

The Storm was at its clinical best, but also had its fair share of luck, scoring two tries against the run of play.

An outstanding Billy Slater effort put Melbourne up 6-0, after beating three defenders, before Dragons halfback Nathan Fien put in a grubber with his side on the attack in the 27th minute.

Unfortunately for the visitors, Storm five-eighth Gareth Widdop gathered the ball to race away and score.

After another try to the premiers through Justin O'Neill before halftime, the Dragons hit back early in the second stanza through their own slice of luck, Jamie Soward coming up with an intercept for his side to trail 18-6.

But the good fortune went back Melbourne's way when O'Neill came up with another intercept try to put his side up 24-6 in the 56th minute.

Dragons winger Jason Nightingale gave the visitors some hope, scoring after a Siosaia Vave error, but Storm winger Mahe Fonua sealed the result with a try with seven minutes on the clock, courtesy of a fine Ryan Hoffman pass.
