Man charged over alleged sexual assault at Brassall
LATEST: Ipswich detectives investigating the alleged sexual assault of a woman at Brassall yesterday morning have charged a 46-year-old Rosewood man.
It will be alleged the man entered a residence shortly before 8.45am where he assaulted a young woman who had been sleeping.
The man fled the scene and was arrested nearby by police a short time later.
He has been denied police bail and remains in custody.
The man is also charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence, disable in order to commit indictable offence, assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, torture and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The man has also been charged with two counts of stealing.
He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
Woman allegedly raped in home invasion
EARLIER: A 46-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries after a young woman was raped in her own home.
Sergeant Philip Lickorish said multiple crews were called to the victim's home at about 9am this morning.
Her older sister, who also lives at the address in Brassall called police after she discovered what had happened.
Sgt Lickorish said the alleged break and enter and assault occurred at about 8.45am this morning in broad daylight.
Crews went searching for the perpetrator shortly after they arrived on scene.
"Crews located (a man) a couple of minutes later," he said.
"Police are talking to both the woman and the 46-year-old man."
Sgt Lickorish said there had been no other similar incidents in the area.
