Study: It's harder leading a single life around Christmas
IT MAY be the festive season but some find it more difficult to be single during this time of the year.
More than half (53%) of single people surveyed by rsvp.com.au said they put more pressure on themselves about their relationship status at this time of year.
Only 27% of respondents said it was their family that put the pressure on.
RSVP Relationship Expert and Psychologist, John Aiken, said there was an assumption that it is the parents, siblings, aunts and uncles that put the pressure on singles at Christmas time.
"But it's actually singles themselves that are the source," he said.
"Although singles relish their independence, the key complaint about being unattached is not having that someone special with whom to share experiences.
"With so many hallmark occasions around Christmas and the New Year, this feeling can be heightened and it causes many singles to put a lot of inward focus on their relationship status."
