Sweet Big Pineapple Music Festival sales
THE inaugural Big Pineapple Music Festival has sold more than 3000 tickets in the first five days they have been on sale as music lovers from across Australia voted with their wallets for a stellar line-up that includes Birds of Tokyo, Grinspoon and Regurgitator.
Organisers hope for another surge of interest this morning before the noon close of the festival's $65 early bird specials for the April 20 event.
Mark Pico, who is co-organiser with his Golden Days Festival partner and Big Pineapple manager Brendan Weatherall, said the early support was fantastic.
They took a bath on the Golden Days Music Festival at Coolum last month after forecasts of wild weather killed pre-sales and concert day tickets.
Ironically enough rain did not fall to activate their insurance policy until the following day's free events, which had to be cancelled.
"It's amazing,'' Mr Pico said of the response to the Big Pineapple festival.
"It's restored a bit of confidence. Bookings are coming from everywhere. The Coast response has been slow as usual but it's been booming in Brisbane.''
Mr Pico put the response down not only to the pricing and line-up, but also people's fond memories of the glory days of the Big Pineapple.
Even normally prickly booking agents have proved easier to get along with because of the national recognition of the venue.
Although the early bird ticket sale closes at noon today, the organisers also have a lay-by payment plan of four manageable amounts to make attending the festival easier for university students and those on lower wages.
The festival will offer camping on the western side of Nambour Connection Rd.
