The King back in Kingaroy

JEFF Hancox and his mates are set to put the King back in Kingaroy when they open the doors for an Elvis tribute concert at the Kingaroy Town Hall on Saturday, June 16.

Mr Hancox will forego his blue suede shoes to focus on renditions of Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash numbers while his mates, Stuey V and Kingsley Rock, perform some classic Elvis tunes.

"I'll leave the Elvis stuff to the other blokes because they are young enough to do the moves,” he said.

Despite taking a back seat, Mr Hancox is keen to sing the praises of guest performers.

"Stuey V competed last year in Memphis and Texas and made the finals there, so he's pretty up there in the tribute community,” he said.

"Kingsley Rock does the 1970s' Elvis stuff, the music from the jumpsuit era.”

Local songstress Natalie Fenton will also perform a Shania Twain imperson- ation.

Mr Hancox will pay for the gig up front and, though it is geared as a profit-making venture, he doesn't expect to make much cash from the night.

Rather, it's a labour of love.

"It's an event that cost me about $5000 to put on and I don't ask for any sponsor- ship or anything,” he said.

"Whatever I make, I make and whatever I lose, I lose.”

Mr Hancox returned from competing at the Boneyview Elvis Contest in Brisbane in early May.

"I came second in the Elvis tribute artist contest and won the busking contest,” he said.

After the Kingaroy gig, he'll head to the Gold Coast for Viva Surfer's Paradise.

"There's a big competition from July 13-22,” he said.

Tickets for the Kingaroy Elvis Show start from $40.
