To market, to market to explore possibilities for produce

SOUTH BURNETT Regional Council is inviting food growers, producers and manufacturers to join them on a study tour to Noosa and Gympie.

The tour will include a visit to the Noosa Farmers Market and Farmer and Sun produce store in Gympie.

At Noosa, participants will have the opportunity to experience a highly successful slow food market, which can attract up to 10,000 visitors weekly.

They will also hear from Shane Stanley who will talk about how to get products into the exclusive Sunshine Coast market.

In Gympie, participants will hear from the Waugh family. They will explain how they successfully made the transition from farmers to retail cafe operators. They will also showcase their food and other local produce.

Mayor Keith Campbell said the future of food within the South Burnett, was a bright one.

"This trip will create a great environment to begin collaboration and food trail discussions amongst the South Burnett food network,” Cr Campbell said.

The Business South Burnett team will lead a road trip conversation topic during the tour: Building the South Burnett as a food destination.

The bus will leave from Moffatdale's Hidden Gold Homestead on Sunday, June 2 at 4.40am, and will depart from Gympie at 2.30pm.

The study tour is free. All meals and other purchases will be at the expense of the participant.
