Two swift water operations prompt flooding reminder

FIRE crews in Mackay have been called to two separate swift water operations overnight.

The first occurred about 11pm when a woman drove into a flooded creek on the Maraju-Yakapari Rd near Marian.

The woman managed to free herself before crews arrived, however the car was submerged.

The second was about 4am this morning when a man lost control and drove off the side of the road into a creek near Eton.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesman said heavy rain and flooding was also to blame.

The man was able to free himself, however the car was left in the creek.

"Just don't drive in the flood water," the spokesman said.

"Stay out of it and ring 000. Just don't go into the water to assist."

Parts of the Mackay region recorded falls of more than 150mls since 9am yesterday, with the Greenmount alert picking up 162mls.

Fire crews were also kept busy during the night responding to multiple alarms, set off by the wet weather.
