MORE priority should be put on school students going into trades and less on going to university.

That is the thoughts of South Burnett cabinetmaker, Andrew Fennell.

Mr Fennell was runner up in the recent South Burnett Times People's Choice Awards for best tradesperson.

He believed there is too much emphasis in schools on getting into university, but trades were equally important.

"A lot of people run tradespeople down," he said.

"Everyone needs a tradesperson at some point."

Mr Fennell has been a cabinet maker for 17 years and prided himself on good customer service.

"I am quite friendly and easy to approach,: he said.

"I like to give the customers what they want."
