Wal pops the question after Captain's Dinner
A $3000 Broncos experience wasn't the only significant event Jason Koy signed up for on the weekend.
The Kingaroy Telstra store manager, affectionately known as Wal, will never forget the Dinner with the Captains event on Saturday night.
And not just because he is now great mates with former Broncos star, Michael Hancock.
It was a nerve-wracking night for Wal as he presented to the packed house at the Captain's Dinner.
But the real nerves didn't kick in until afterwards.
Wal popped the question to Natalie McCormick, his loving partner of six-and-a-half years.
"It was always the plan," he said.
As he recalls, Natalie was overwhelmed and had no idea what was happening when he proposed at the Kingaroy Hotel.
"There were quite a few people around," Wal said.
"Mainly close friends."
While he wasn't sure where he would do it, Wal said he was definitely prepared to ask for Natalie's hand in marriage that night.
"I was definitely going to do it after the dinner," he said.
"Wherever that might be."
The long-time Telstra employee said they had plenty of time to lock in a date for their big day.
"Haven't got a clue," he said.
"I've got no idea, but there is no rush."
Wal said he was happy with how the proposal went, even though he had thought about doing it on a much larger scale.
"I would've loved to have done it at a Broncos game," he said.
"But I probably would've dropped dead from a heart attack."
