War memorial to get a facelift
A GRANT of $3000 has been given to the Murgon RSL Sub branch to restore the Murgon War Memorial.
Wide Bay MP and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said the Federal Government's Saluting Their Service Commemorations program awarded the grant.
"This work will help restore the appearance of the Murgon War Memorial, which is almost 90 years old," he said.
"Like many memorials that were erected in small country towns after the First World War, the Murgon memorial has an important place in ensuring that the service and sacrifices of the first Anzacs are not forgotten.
"I am pleased that the Commonwealth is able to provide this funding to the Murgon RSL, so that these restoration works can be carried out to allow the Murgon community to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign."
