WARNING: Severe fire danger to start the week

SEVERE fire dangers are forecast to affect the Maranoa and Warrego districts today.

The Bureau of Meterology says the fire danger has the potential to have localised extreme conditions in some forested parts of the district.

Fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds are expected to bring hot and dry conditions across the warning area on Monday.

This will be ahead of a surface trough that will sweep eastwards across the area in the middle part of the day, into the afternoon.

These winds will shift west to southwesterly following the passage of the trough, leaving the airmass hot and very dry.

There will be the potential for a few dry thunderstorms and for cloud to ground lightning strikes which may affect the northeast of the Maranoa and Warrego districts.

A fire ban is still in place for the South Burnett and Cherbourg until midnight on Friday, October 18.
