'Not a charity': Joyce speaks out on drought assistance
GIVING to drought assistance is not a charity event.
Special Envoy for Drought Recovery Barnaby Joyce told the crowd of more than 60 at the drought meeting in Murgon this on Tuesday December 18.
"This is not a charity event, this is us looking after the people who keep our standard of living where it is," he said.
Mr Joyce said producers were crucial for Australia and are what make the nation great.
"People who put the product on the boat are the reason this nation is what it is, every time we go to help people during the drought, that's not charity that's self-sustenance for our nation," Mr Joyce said.
The South Burnett and Cherbourg government areas form part of more than 58 per cent of the land area in Queensland currently drought declared.
