MOTOR SPORT: Ten members of the Barbeler family will take to the track at the Kingaroy Speedway's first meeting of the season on Saturday.

Michelle Barbeler will compete in the same class her son Nathan, and will have her niece and nephew competing in the junior divisions.

"With all our family racing it is a big family affair, and to have so many family members in one sport, it is a treasure,” Michelle said.

Michelle, Nathan and her husband David, have spent the off-season madly preparing their three cars ready to race with David to debut a new car after engine failure last year.

"In the off season we spend every spare five minutes in the shed,” Michelle said.

"For our team we build our own race cars from top to bottom.”

In 2006, Michelle wrote her name into the history books, becoming the first female to win a South Burnett Speedway Club Championship in Division 2 Street Sedans but will race in the street stock class on Saturday.

"People are becoming more accepting that is not just a male dominated sport,” Michelle said.

At Kingaroy Speedway's biggest annual meeting, the Kings Royal, they will have their first race purely for women, the Queens of the Wheel, which is set to attract racers from across the country.

Secretary of Kingaroy Speedway, Tanya Barron, said the club are looking forward to the first meeting of the season with 101 cars nominated to race.

"We are very excited to start the season off again and thankful for the support of the drivers,” Barron said.

"We usually get big car counts but that's huge for our nominations for our first meeting of the season.

"We hope to see a big crowd down and enjoying the racing.”

The meeting is also round one of the Queensland V8 Super Sedans series.

Gates open on Saturday at 2:00pm before racing starts at 4pm. Admission prices can be found on the Kingaroy Speedway Facebook page.
