Why being Town Proud is at the heart of everything council does
THE South Burnett Regional Council is proud of the businesses and community members across the region.
According to senior economic and development officer Craig Tunley, being Town Proud is at the heart of what the council’s operations.
“We’re a big part of the region and we provide a lot of services with the level of government that’s representing our grassroots, towns and communities,” Mr Tunley said.
“It’s about everything we do, from tourism to art galleries, libraries and more.
“We also take care of parks and gardens, open spaces, roads, all of those kinds of things.”
Mr Tunley said that to do all of this, council required a large number of staff, making it one of the biggest operations in the region.
As so many representatives of the community work at the council, it helps the team have a thorough understanding of the hardships people face across the region.
“You’re always going to get some extreme weather events. I think we have a very resilient business community,” Mr Tunley said.
“We know since the severe storms in October last year, we still have businesses that haven’t fully recovered from that.”
Mr Tunley believes it’s important to support businesses across the region, because it helps people continue to see business growth and regional growth.
“We want businesses to be able to connect with each other in those times,” he said.
“It’s all about communication – the more ways businesses can communicate what they’re doing and why they’re doing it, in both good times and bad, is really important.”
