Women fly to win at home

RUGBY LEAGUE: The South Burnett Eagles women's A-grade side proved they are going from strength to strength in their first season with a 24 to six point win over Nambour at Wondai on Saturday.

Coach of the side, Stephen Sheather, said the girls relished the opportunity to play in front of family and friends.

"We spoke about having their family and friends there in the dressing sheds before the game and the support helped them on the field and was an opportunity for the girls to show their family what they can do,” he said.

"After the game you could hear the families talk about how hard the girls play.”

It is the second consecutive win for the team and Sheather is proud of the improvements the girls have been making in their first season playing together and of their performances against well established sides.

"They have been making progress every game with all the little things from ball control to communication in the team to attack and defence,” he said.

"I am happy with the way they are going, they did start out steadily with a lot of new players they are progressing well as a team.”

Sheather is also impressed with the girls' ability to apply what they learn during training to the games.

"We have been focussing on their defence and that has helped them,” he said.

He admitted that there was always room for improvement and the girls will continue to work hard and develop together as a team.
