Family 'distraught' after little girl crushed by tyre

THE family of a seven-year-old girl who was crushed to death by a tyre in a workshop are "so distraught".

A friend close to the family said "the whole town is feeling" the death of the little girl, who died on Tuesday.

It is understood she was playing outside a business where her father was working.

Friends and neighbours are rallying around the family, all of them devastated by the incident.

"No parent should have to bury their child before themselves.

This is such an awful loss of life and the whole town is feeling it," the friend said.

"They are so distraught.

"I hope that beautiful child rests in peace, she will be so missed.

"It makes you want to hug your own child so tight and never let go."

It's believed the girl had been with her dad at a workshop on the Warrego Highway, on the west side of town when she was crushed by a tyre.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed they had not been called to the workshop.

Instead, it's understood the father took his little girl to the hospital.

Tributes are pouring in for the family on social media, describing the girl as a "beautiful little gem".

"RIP beautiful girl," one said.

"It's something that isn't fair to have happen to you," another wrote.

"My heart aches for you."

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland officers have confirmed they will investigate the incident and prepare a report for the coroner.

A Queensland Police Services spokeswoman said they were assisting WHS.

"We will also be preparing a report for the coroner," she said.
