'Zero respect': child care centre vandalised overnight
STAFF were shocked to find a child care's windows were smashed overnight, leaving broken glass throughout children's play areas.
Murgon Child Care and Learning Centre owner, Vim Van Rensburg, said staff arrived this morning to find all the centre's glass windows had been smashed.
He said it was the fourth time this had happened at the centre.
Mr Van Rensburg said the staff had taken preventative measures, replacing glass windows with plastic ones to prevent them being smashed, but the vandals had broken the remaining glass panes.
He said fortunately staff were able to clean up the broken glass before it endangered children.
"We had all the kids outside while we cleaned," he said.
In a Facebook post, a child care spokesperson said the actions showed a lack of respect.
"There are people out there that have zero respect for your children and their safety," the post read.
"This is not acceptable, and we should not be OK with it."
The incident was reported to the police.
Murgon police officer in charge, Lance Guteridge, said he believed the offence took place between 5pm on Tuesday, August 7 and 7am on Wednesday, August 8.
"If anyone has information concerning this they are requested to ring Murgon police station on 4179 5222 or Crime Stoppers," Snr Sgt Guteridge said.
